VHS going, going...nearly gone
- unlike the sad demise of vinyl records, not many people will be missing clunky VHS
- McDonald's new flagship restaurant complete with internet access, plasma TVs and gourmet coffee at the adjacent McCafe seems a bit ridiculous, but this test concept will be interesting to watch. Refocusing McDonald's restaurants by making them more contemporary places to hang out may be a step in the right direction. Of course it will be easy to scoff at the concept, and McDonalds will never be a cool spot to spend time in, but if a restaurant can take the idea of a modern "third space" and make it work for the mainstream, it may as well be McD's. The in-store cd-burners, on the other hand...
- It may have been all about the iPod for the last few years, but the future belongs to the mobile phone. Content providers are teaming up with carriers (Napster and Eriscsson just announced their deal) enabling delivery of a huge variety news, music, video and radio programming.
