"What might be also affecting this is the fact that there are a lot more of these quality narrative nonfiction books out there," she said.
But the trend has much to do with the customers themselves. Terry Kraml, of Trofie Productions, a marketing firm that works with airport bookstores, said that customers are drawn to serious nonfiction because they want information.
"People aren't going just to John Grisham for entertainment anymore," Ms. Kraml said. "People are looking for substance now."
