Really like this strategy that Nokia is using to launch its music download service, and hope it takes off: they've brought together well-respected music "recommenders" like David Bowie and 40 of the world's top specialty record stores to pick selections. This speaks directly to the DJ in me!
The promotion for this has been via a hyped documentary available only online (shot by the director of Bueno Vista Social Club, Wim Wenders). In it, David Bowie talks briefly about the lifelong passion for discovering and sharing new music, and how it has fueled his career.
Specialty stores (ranging from classical to hip-hop, rock to jazz) from around the world have long been the source of great undiscovered music, and having spent the better part of my life either working or spending money in shops just like the ones in the clip, I think this is great. Will it even make a dent in Apple/iPod though?
